Process
This 5-stage process was meant for the creation of standard libraries.
We would need to adapt it somewhat for general standardization documents.
- Draft
- Who
- Any member can store a draft document or library in the repository
- Prerequisites
- None, a draft can be introduced anytime into the repository
- Where
- A Draft/ directory in the repository
- Proposed
- Who
- A proposer and an independent second supporter (who must be named in the proposal)
- Prerequisites
- The proposer has brought the library into publishable shape and has convinced a supporter
- Where
- A Proposed/ directory in the repository (moved there by the second supporter)
- Trial
- Who
- Approved by secretary, and a maintainer assigned
- Prerequisites
- Accepted for publication by a majority vote among the members
- Where
- The library/ directory in the repository (moved there by the secretary)
- Stable
- Who
- Updated by maintainer, voting initiated by anyone, admin by secretary
- Prerequisites
- Accepted as stable by a majority vote among the members
- Where
- The library/ directory in the repository, status marked
- Deprecated
- Prerequisites
- Deprecated by a majority vote among the members
- Where
- Remains in the library/ directory, but status marked accordingly
What we need to implement this process:
- a formal list of the voting members
- an elected secretary to call for votes etc
