I assume the file(s) you downloaded are unpacked? I think MacOSX is able to automatically unpack these files, but if not, you can use tar to unpack it (tar -zxvf eclipse_basic_5_10_39_ppc_macosx.tgz). The README is also available by clicking the `notes' icon for the package you are downloading (if you are downloading from Source Forge). If you downloaded the source, then you could try compiling it, following the instructions in INSTALL, again in the toplevel directory, although this may be a little more difficult to do.
