Thanks a lot for this detailed answer, it helped a lot, and corrected 
some stuff that was just conceptually wrong in my head.  I'm still not 
sure to what extent the problems I have are worth my time to fix this, I 
think I can afford waiting for the next release and check the API for 
improvements on this point.
