Governors' Lectureship, Imperial College IC-Parc, the Centre for Planning and Resource Control at Imperial College , is seeking to recruit to a Governors' Lecturer position in the area of constraint programming. IC-Parc pursues both basic and applications-driven research into hybrid algorithms for large scale resource-constrained planning problems. Current research interests focus on cooperating constraint solvers and the hybridisation of constructive and local search methods. The ECLiPSe constraint logic programming system lies at the heart of the research venture and is used in all of IC-Parc's applications. The system enables different constraint solvers and constraint handlers to cooperate within a constructive search algorithm. ECLiPSe is now being enhanced is to allow constructive search to be hybridised with local search. The new appointment will join the ECLiPSe team. The agenda is to design, develop and support facilities both for solving complex problems, and to generalise and capture new solution techniques inside ECLiPSe. Teaching opportunities at IC-Parc centre on the postgraduate programme, in which ECLiPSe plays a pivotal role. Teaching is in the form of tutorials where postgraduates learn to exploit and test the facilities of the platform. Other forms of teaching are currently in the planning stages. PhD supervision forms an important part of the teaching programme. Candidates should have a strong interest in language design and implementation, with solid experience in logic programming and constraints programming, and a desire to work on developing hybrid algorithms. Candidates should have a PhD and ideally some industrial experience. Appointments will normally be made in the Lecturer salary range of 18,789 - 31,182 pounds (pay award pending). In addition, there will be substantial opportunities for consulting with IC-Parc's spin-off company Parc Technologies. The final date for receipt of applications is Thursday 30 September.
